Sips & Tips for Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab

Happy New Year! My resolutions definitely include finding new and interesting wines to enjoy. Kick off 2015 with one of these cost-friendly selections, guaranteed to please the palate as well as the pocketbook:
Perfect as an aperitif or a smart match for spicy food, Riesling is the utility player amongst grape varieties. The 2013 Dr. Pauly-Bergweiler, Noble House, Riesling, Mosel, Germany ($8 per glass) delivers powerful notes of baked apple and citrus followed by a hint of white peach. Year after year, these fruit driven flavors evoke the pure essence of the Mosel Valley, a region steeped in tradition with the reputation for producing some of the finest Riesling on earth.
“Unoaked” has become a buzzword throughout the wine industry. Many Chardonnay drinkers have veered away from the massive buttery styles, in favor of a more sleek and focused wine. The 2013 Kenneth Volk, Jaybird, Unoaked, Chardonnay, Santa Maria Valley, California ($62 per bottle) is a polished example of Chardonnay in its purest form. With notes of flint and fresh apple, reminiscent of the fine white wines of Burgundy, this is a great pair with Joe's Pan Sauteed Branzino.
From the heart of the Rhone Valley comes the 2012 Jean-Louis Chave, Mon Coeur, Cotes-du-Rhone, France ($55 per bottle). A beautiful blend of Grenache and Syrah from organically farmed vineyards creates a wine with a harmonious balance of power and finesse. Aromas of dark fruit and cooking spices give way to core notes of blackberry and plum with a fine touch of pepper on the finish. This is an easy match with our Braised Beef Short Rib with celery root puree.
