His great insight was understanding the potential, still untapped, of the territory of Vincigliata in Fiesole, with lots of minerals on a clay and galestro foundation softened by sand. Separate vinification for every varietal left almost entirely uncrushed in open barriques, no pressing, and a wise blending and refinement are just some of the secrets of the amazing Testamatta - However, the series of wines made this year are so suberb that they cannot even be compared with the best offerings of recent years, which had already raised such clamor." - Daniel Thomases
