Sips & Tips for Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab

As the days get longer and winter resigns, tis the season to focus on lighter fare, al fresco dining, and refreshing beverages! Aromatic wines, as the name suggests, are packed with enticing aromas of flowers, citrus fruits, and herbs. ‘Aroma’ and ‘bouquet’ are terms commonly used when tasting wine and are key components to the overall appreciation and comprehension of taste. Take a whiff before sipping to heighten your senses!

The following selections are great representations of the tastes and pairings we all love on a sunny spring day:

Named after Beethoven’s Third Symphony, 2011 Eroica, Riesling, Columbia Valley, Washington ($68 per bottle) is a melody of fresh peach, tangerine, and bright minerality. This dynamic collaboration between Dr. Loosen Estate from the Mosel Valley (Germany) and Chateau Ste. Michelle (Washington State) combines Old World tradition with New World potential. The balance of fruit and minerals make this an ideal match for our sweet and briny Alaskan King Crab Legs.

Located in the Northwest corner of Spain, Rias Baixas is a maritime region known for highly aromatic white wines made from the Albariño grape. The 2011 Columna, Albariño, Rias Baixas, Spain ($11 per glass) exhibits opulent aromas of pineapple, white peach and honeysuckle. This unique white wine pairs well with our Seared Ahi Tuna sandwich, adding a sweet balance to the spicy wasabi mayonnaise.

Torrontés is the native white grape of Argentina. Made for early consumption, the wines are light and high in acidity. Aromas of orange blossom, white flower, and jasmine make the 2011 Doña Paula, Torrontés, Salta, Argentina ($35 per bottle) a thirst quenching wine to partner with our Seafood Chopped Salad, enhancing its fresh flavors.

**Wine Tip:  Pour your chilled glass of white wine and let it warm up a bit before enjoying it. This process will enhance the flavors and aromas described above. The colder the wine, the less you can taste.
