Sips & Tips for Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab

Italy is often regarded as one of the finest wine producing countries in the world.   With over 350 approved grape varieties planted from Alto Adige in the north to Puglia in the south, there is truly a style of wine suited for every palate. The following selections are a window into the diverse landscape of culture, heritage, and culinary tradition that makes Italy so electric.

There is no better way to start of your meal than with a crisp glass of sparkling wine. Located in the northeastern part of Italy, the Prosecco DOCG is famous for producing delicious sparkling wine from a grape called Glera. NV La Marca Prosecco, Veneto, Italy ($9 per glass) exhibits fresh notes of apple, peach and honeysuckle.  This sparkler is a refreshing summertime partner for our Dover Sole with brown butter sauce.

With a dedicated focus on sustainability and organic farming practices, 2012 Alois Lageder, Pinot Grigio, Alto Adige, Italy ($10 per glass) has evolved the style and perception of Pinot Grigio around the globe. Minimal winemaking intervention allows vibrant notes of white flower, fresh lemon and minerality to unite in perfect harmony.  This is a delicious glass of wine to kick off your dinner with our Ahi Tuna Tartare.

Barbera is a grape variety indigenous to the region of Piedmont in central Italy, a highly regarded wine producing area known for wines of exceptional quality. With notes of red raspberry and cherries, low tannin and high acid, the 2010 Vietti, Barbera d’Asti, Italy ($13 per glass) is a delicious option with amazing versatility.  Here’s an adventurous wine to match to our Char-Broiled Beef Tenderloin Sandwich with Horseradish Sauce.
