Sips & Tips for Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab

Joe’s February Sommelier Series will focus on one of the greatest wine producers in all of Italy – Angelo Gaja. Stop by February 20 – 26 to sample your way through these four amazing glass pours from this notorious estate!

Hailing from the picturesque windswept hills of Tuscany, we’re pleased to offer this rare and refreshing blend of two white grape varietals- Vermentino and Viognier. The Ca’Marcanda, Vistamare, Tuscany, Italy ($12 3oz / $24 6oz) delivers rich notes of peach and apricot followed by fresh acidity, making a perfect complement for Joe’s Famous Stone Crab.

Our next selection brings us to the northwest corner of Italy.  Named for Angelo Gaja’s daughter, Rossana, the Gaja, Rossj-Bass, Chardonnay, Langhe, Italy ($18 3oz / $36 6oz) offers elegant aromas of citrus fruits, accompanied by perfumed hints of white flowers and honey. With considerable depth and finesse on the palate, this is a lovely pairing for our Dover Sole with Brown Butter Sauce.

We can't forget about the beautiful reds, so we head to Bolgheri, a region that has recently been introduced to the global stage as a producer of Super Tuscan wines (a term used to describe a wine that is made in Tuscany, but uses Bordeaux grape varietals).  The Ca’Marcanda, Magari, Bolgheri, Tuscany, Italy ($14 3oz / $28 6oz) is an inviting blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. Lush notes of blueberry followed by elegant spice create a natural match for our 16oz Rib Eye.

For centuries, Barolo has been considered “the King of Wines," and the Gaja, Dagromis, Barolo, Italy ($19 3oz / $38 6oz) lives up to this billing. Rich and powerful aromas of licorice and herbs are supported by elegance and integrated tannins on the palate. Made from 100% Nebbiolo, it encapsulates the splendor of Piedmont, and is an ideal wine to enjoy with our Signature Bone-In Filet Mignon.
