Let's hang on to
summer with a little Rioja! Swing in to
Joe’s September 19-25 to sample some of Spain's finest. These four selections have generated
tremendous hype for the region, and we are excited to share!
'Rose all day'
isn't just a cliché- this diverse varietal can start, support, or complete a meal,
and is also enjoyable on its own. The Muga,
Rosado, Rioja, Spain ($7 6oz / $28 per bottle) is a deliciously light
and refreshing wine made from Garnacha, Viura & Tempranillo. Pale orange in
color, with vibrant notes of apricot on the nose, the wine is a great match for
Joe’s Salmon Au Poivre with Orange, Fennel & Radish.
Hailing from one
of the most highly-regarded wineries in the region, R. López de Heredia,
Viña Tondonia Blanco Reserva, Rioja, Spain ($9 3oz / $18 6oz) is quite
unique! Faint hints of hazelnut and
fresh herbs enable this savory white wine to create a dynamic pairing with our
Roasted Alaskan Halibut with Wild Mushrooms & White Asparagus.
Founded in 1858
and renovated in 2006 by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, Marqués de
Riscal is stunning. Equally as
impressive is their Marqués de Riscal, Reserva, Rioja, Spain ($10 6oz /
$40 per bottle). Intense notes
of licorice and cinnamon aromas give way to concentrated fruit on the
palate. Considered a true ambassador to
Rioja, this wine is lively and expressive, creating a perfect partner for our
Filet & Tail combo.
The red wine
sibling to the aforementioned white wine, the R. López de Heredia, Viña
Tondonia Rojo Reserva, Rioja, Spain ($10 3oz / $20 6oz) is produced
using Tempranillo & Garnacha. Bright
and vibrant in color, the wine gives no indication that it has been aged for 12
years. Notes of tart cherry and dried berries make for a delicious compliment
to our Double Cut Colorado Lamb Chops with Mint Chimichurri.

Tip: The
term “Vino Joven” on a Spanish bottle of wine directly translates to “young
wine", indicating that it is meant to be consumed immediately. “Reserva”,
according to Spanish Wine Law, means the wine has been aged for at least 3
years before release, and could certainly benefit from additional cellar aging.
